Ornament of woodblock printing: “Ptakha” and “Vsesvit”

Two projects have been developed. The first is “Vsesvit,” ornamental motifs are inspired by painting on the walls, framing of windows and vytynankas of unknown folk masters of Kolomyia district of Ivano-Frankivsk region.

The second project is “Ptakha,” a synthesis of rosette motifs of vytynankas of the mid-twentieth century of the village of Pechinizhyn, Kolomyia district, with animalistic motifs of the traditional bouncer of eastern Ukraine. Both motifs symbolize the beauty of nature and visualize the richness of Ukrainian flora and fauna. Cruciform motifs are associated with the sacred meaning of the bird (the symbol of the soul) in the beliefs of Ukrainians.
