The beauty and magic powers of a star are embodied in the shawl “Zirka-Sontse” from CHERNIKOVA brand and artist Daria Alyoshkina, who creates monumental vytynanky (papercutting).
The artist gave new life to the ancient Ukrainian art and transformed it into the modern one, showing it to the world through her numerous works.
By education she is a sculptor, Master of Arts, Lviv National Academy of Arts.
The artist belongs to the Homo Faber Guide of the Michelangelo Foundation.
She collaborated with Ukrainian and Polish “Vogue”.
She had joint projects with the jewelry brands “Cartier”, “Oberig”, “Sova”.
She collaborated with “Hermes” designer Isabel Daëron.
Her vytynanky have already represented Ukraine in 16 countries.

Here is what the artist says about the Star-Sun:
My most popular vytynanka is the one with the Star-Sun.
“A star, or a rose, is, first of all, a symbol of the Sun as the brightest star. “Roses” can be full, simple, half-round, etc. A pysanka (an Easter egg) with such a pattern is given as a gift for good luck. It symbolizes life, growth and well-being.
In oral folk art, three stars are mentioned: the morning, evening and noon ones. They are symbolic images which signify certain sacred periods of time.
In folklore, particularly in Christmas carols, a star is a beautiful maiden, a wife or daughter of the Moon—the owner of the heavenly home. In the morning, she opens the heavenly gates with her keys and lets the Sun out, that rushes after her. She directs the movement of the luminaries in the sky and sprinkles dew over the Earth, and bees collect the divine dew and give people honey. Folk symbolism classified stars either as children of the Sun and the Moon, or as candles lit by God in honor of people born.”
The art of vytynanky gives free rein to imagination, a sense of rhythm, calmness and confidence. The long-known vytynanky, made of paper or thin cardboard, are now embodied in metal, wood and fabric.
